Installed at ZDB gallery for two days during Queer Lisboa, At Home with Little Joe is a sculptural cinematic event created in collaboration between Little Joe magazine and artists João Pedro Vale & Nuno Alexandre Ferreira. Defined not only by a structure but also a sense of belonging and kinship, At Home with Little Joe turns the magazine into a site of shared experience and deviant domesticity, a place in which to imagine the potential of the home as a site for expression and activism, and in which to consider new modes of living.
The private realm of the home has long afforded queers safe spaces in which to congregate and collectivise; gay rights movements, commercial gay pornography and experimental queer cinema were all founded in private homes. They were places in which to become visible, to explore identity and desire, and so inevitably became the site of artistic expression and liberationist practices. Join the Little Joe family as they present a program of films that relate directly to the home as a site of queer artistic production and radical expression, including home movies, video diaries, pornography, public-access television, soap operas, experimental cinema and YouTube confessionals.
Alongside the screenings, DJs CVLT (Lisbon) and David Oh (London) will be taking over the 49 ZDB dance floor.
